What is an embedded
font?
An embedded font is a font that is embedded directly into the PDF file. Using
embedded fonts guarantees that the reader of the PDF will see the original
font, regardless of whether or not they have the font installed on their system.
In general, it is not necessary to embed fonts since a close match to the
original will be substituted if it is available on the computer where it is
displayed.
Can PDF files
be edited?
Yes, anyone with the full Adobe Acrobat product can edit the contents of PDF
files. pdfFactory Pro allows you to easily encrypt your PDFs and thereby prevent
editing.
What types of fonts
does pdfFactory support?
Only TrueType fonts are supported. The current version supports Asian fonts
and non-ANSI character fonts such as Hebrew, Greek, and central European fonts.

Does pdfFactory
keep links in documents?
Only pdfFactory Pro supports URLs and email links. Bookmarks will be supported
in an upcoming release of pdfFactory Pro.
How can I convert multiple files
to PDF without opening and printing each one?
All the files will print to pdfFactory and will be saved in the AutoSave folder (by default \My Documents\PDF files\AutoSave).
What versions of
PDF are supported?
pdfFactory supports PDF 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5, depending upon the requirements
of the document. We try to use the lowest version possible in order to maximize
Acrobat reader compatibility.
What is the difference
between the pdfFactory preview and the actual PDF file?
In most cases, they are the same. If your original document contains complex
graphics or if you are embedding fonts, it is best to verify that the PDF
is correct by using the View PDF button.
How do I combine
documents into a single PDF?
pdfFactory will automatically combine documents for you once the pdfFactory
screen is displayed. Just keep printing to pdfFactory and the preview display
will update when new print jobs are received.
Can the graphic
quality of my PDFs be improved?
Click the Properties or Perferences button in Print dialog (after you click
File > Print), click the Graphics tab and try turning off the image downsampling
and/or JPEG compression.
Why are files printing so slow
to pdfFactory?
Try uninstalling all printers and then reinstalling them, testing
with pdfFactory after each installation. This should solve the problem.
What is the difference
between Acrobat and pdfFactory?
Even if you own Acrobat, pdfFactory is still useful for these reasons:
Does pdfFactory
work with Windows Terminal Server and Citrix Metaframe?
Yes, it does. Please see Server
Edition for more information.
How do I
remove the margins in pdfFactory?
Margins can be removed from the pdfFactory
properties in the printers folder. Right click on pdfFactory and select Properties
(Win9x) or Document Defaults (NT) or Printing Preferences (2K/XP), click the
Metrics tab and set the margins to 0.
Why are my
PDFs printed
from Acrobat smaller or larger
than the original document?
To prevent Acrobat from scaling the
document, select "None" for Page Scaling in Acrobat's Print dialog.
Installing
pdfFactory Using Add Printer Wizard
In some cases the installation of pdfFactory
fails to properly install the driver in your Printers folder. In these cases,
pdfFactory must be installed from the Printers folder using the Add Printer
Wizard.
First, extract all the pdfFactory files into a temporary folder on your hard
disk, e.g. c:\fptemp. WINRAR is necessary to extract the files and can be
downloaded here.
Before you continue, you should uninstall any existing version of pdfFactory
on your system. Using the Start menu, Run, type the command "c:\fptemp\setup
/uninstall" (without the quotes) to uninstall. Do this even if the pdfFactory
printer is not visible in your Printers folder, because it will clean up any
remaining traces from an unsuccessful installation. Make sure to reboot your
system after uninstalling, before you proceed with the new installation.
After rebooting, run the command "c:\fptemp\setup /inf" (without the quotes).
This will create the INF files necessary to perform an Add Printer Wizard
installation.
The next steps depend on your Windows platform.
